En mi clase de español (Castellano) en Tennessee, EEUU este año, hemos estudiado la historia y la tradición del Día De los Muertos en los primeros dos días de Noviembre. La semana pasada, les asigné una “charla” en que tenían que hablar brevemente de una persona importante en su vida o una persona famosa fallecida que admiraba. Ellos trajeron fotos de la persona y los agregaron a la ofrenda que construimos en la clase. Asignaciones así enseñan la lengua, la cultura, y la capacidad de hacer una charla improvista al mismo tiempo. También les gusta mucho porque a los estudiantes les encanta aprender de sus compañeros de clase. Fue un éxito de aprendizaje, y espero que a los muertos les agrade también.
In my Spanish class in Tennessee, USA this year, we have studied the history and tradition of the Day of the dead the first two days of November. Last week I assigned a short talk, a charla, in which they were to speak briefly about someone important in their life or a deceased famous person that they admire. The students brought photos of this person and added them to the altar that we made in the classroom. These kinds of assignments teach the language, the culture, and the ability to create an improvised talk all at the same time. The students also like it a lot because they love to learn about and from their classmates. It was a success in terms of learning, and I hope that the spirits are pleased with the results as well.
