A little about why I have chosen to write a blog. I am a teacher of Spanish and English as second languages at Baylor School in Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA. This summer, I will embark on a new path: I will travel to Spain to take part in a program for American teachers of Spanish in Salamanca, Spain. I expect that this experience will be a pivotal moment in my career and life and I hope to record my impressions of the experience here to share with friends, family, students, and colleagues. I would like to offer my sincere thanks to the University of Salamanca, the Embassy of Spain, and to Baylor School for making this trip possible. I hope that readers find the information here enjoyable and valuable.

Inspiraciones: Proverbios y cantares (XXIX)

Caminante, son tus huellas
el camino, y nada más;
caminante, no hay camino,
se hace camino al andar.
Al andar se hace camino,
y al volver la vista atrás
se ve la senda que nunca
se ha de volver a pisar.
Caminante, no hay camino,
sino estelas en la mar.
Proverbios y cantares XXIX, Antonio Machado, 1912
Cantares:Joan Manuel Serrat (Caminante...)

Wanderer, it's just your footprints, the road, and nothing else.
Wanderer, there is no path--the path is made by walking.
Walking, you make the path.
And as you eyes return to what now lies behind you,
You see the path you will never walk again.
Wanderer, there is no path, just the wake you leave on the surface of the sea.
